Action Steps for Anxiety
Upon learning of my 4th Stage Ovarian Cancer, I had anxiety! For 2 weeks we had no answers. In that scenario, you fill in the blanks with the saddest things that come to mind. I had a few Panic Attacks. But God's Word says, "The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time." He rescues us each time! That's what we have to remember. I want to share some tangible things you can do when you are having an anxiety attack. This is called, "Grounding." First sit down and slow your breathing and say a quick prayer.
Look Around You and Find:
5 Things You Can SEE.
Sit there breathing and look around. You can see a picture of a family member in a frame, the TV, a book on the table, your cat, a plant, etc.
4 Things You Can FEEL.
A soft blanket, your pet, the sun shining on your face, or your comfy slippers. I have even opened the freezer and put my face in there to feel the coldness.
3 Things You Can HEAR.
Birds chirping...that's one reason I hang out in the garden. Children laughing, music, the fan running, the clock ticking, or your cat purring... my favorite!
2 Things You Can SMELL.
Hand Lotion, cookies, cut grass, flowers, chocolate, coffee, and perfume.
1 Things You Can TASTE.
Pop something in your mouth. A life-savor, cookie, or chocolate.
These simple steps pull you away from anxiety slowly and back to calm through stimulating your senses.
God does not want us riddled with anxiety! He loves us too very much. It's 3 Main things: Pray. Ground Yourself. Speak the Scriptures out loud to the enemy. Often the enemy will cause a panic attic. But you, my friend, are more powerful than satan. You can call him out to leave you alone! Luke 10:19 tell us, "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you." You see time is running out for the enemy to keep people oppressed. But we don't have to stand for it because greater is He that is in us than he that is in the the World! John 16:33 tells, "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
