How's Your Love Life?

Valentine’s Day is the time of the year when we take the time to celebrate love and the people who are meaningful to us. The actual definition of love is, "An intense feeling of deep affection." Various synonyms include fondness, tenderness, warmth and intimacy. We all need love. If we are to come up with a definition for love, we’d have to settle for one that utilizes a broad view, describing it as a set or variety of feelings, attitudes, behaviors and states that represent an individual’s pleasure over something, or her affection for other human beings and creatures.

According to Psychology Today, "Love is as critical for your mind and body as oxygen. It's not negotiable. The more connected you are, the healthier you will be both physically and emotionally. The less connected you are, the more you are at risk." This is one reason we feel worse when we isolate ourselves away from others which is one thing that increases depression. Family and friends to love is the most enjoyable aspect of life.

God's Perfect Love

There is only one, intense, true, and amazing love and that is the love of GOD. Revisiting our key scripture, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." Before we can authentically love others, we must first love God. Learn to minimize your worry. Because worry is a lack of faith and God can't work in our lives. God sends His angels to circle around us, protect us, and guide us. God does not respond to us as a Biblical character. He is real. And the closer you get to Him, the more you experience Him working in your favor. He wants us to have the desires of our heart. There's no catch. He just wants us to follow Him so He can bless us beyond our wildest dreams. (Ephesians 3:20).

God knows everything about you. He knows you love tacos. He knows that people get on your nerves. He knows you watch the news and feel uneasy. He knows which shoes you wear the most. He knows you watch, "The Bachelor." He knows every little detail about your life and created you to be one-of-a-kind. And He forgives us EVERY TIME we ask Him. Even when we don't forgive ourselves. God wants us to love Him back as our own personal choice. He never forces it. We must come to Him. And he wants us to love ourselves so we can reach out and love those around us.

Loving Those Around Us

So we established, one of the commandments is to love your neighbor as yourself. We also read that love is, "affection." "Affect," means ACTION. Know that love is a learned skill, not something that comes from hormones or emotion particularly. Erich Fromm called it "an act of will." God wants us to actively look for ways to show love to others. We must have a heightened awareness of these opportunities. One of my friends was going to take an extra job as a Limousine Chauffeur and was having a hard time finding a black vest to wear for the job. So I went on Amazon and found a beautiful black best with satin lapels. She was blown away that I remembered her saying that. AND it fit perfect!

Keep a keen ear open for ways to delight others. It doesn't have to cost money. It can be that you listen attentively. There are a lot of women who are hurting and just need to talk it out. As I have been navigating Cancer, there have been so many of my friends that have. gone out of their way for me with gifts, acts of service, meals, flowers & balloons. And I can't emphasize enough how important and helpful greeting cards are. I can't tell you how many days that I have received a card and it lifted my spirits to the heavens. Just be a willing servant of God and He will personally show you when and how to take action in showing the love of Jesus Christ.

"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, will be rooted and established in love."
