Where Do You Hide?

We all have our places to hide. For some of us with young children or grandchildren, your only hiding place is the bathroom. And sometimes even that doesn't work. When I want to hide for an hour, I go to a Flower Nursery, Hobby Lobby, or a Thrift Store. If you can squeeze out an hour to run away. Do it! It's rejuvenating and relaxing! Sometimes though we hide other things in our life that are not so good for us. Let's look at things we hide and what we can do to walk confidently in God's grace.

We Hide Our Desires

We Hide Our Emotions

We Hide Our Sins

We Try to Hide from God

We Hide Our Desires

We all have secret dreams in life or a list of, "If Only's." Sometimes I think we are afraid to confide our dreams to someone... even our own spouse sometimes. We may think people will think our idea is silly or unfeasible. So we keep our secret dreams hidden in our heart. The good news is God knows they are there. A familiar scripture, Psalm 37:4 tells us, "Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart."

We Hide Our Emotions

Thanks to Brene' Brown's book, "Daring Greatly," there's a lot of research currently on the power of being vulnerable. But showing your emotions could be taboo to you if you grew up in a family that did not show emotions. Other folks wear their hearts on their sleeves. Sometimes we dress it up and keep up appearances. We feel as long as we look good people won't really know how we feel inside. We all know stifling our feelings and pushing them deep down inside of us is bad news. So you need a trusted friend that you can share anything and everything with. It gets it out of our system and is very cleansing to our souls.

We Hide Our Sins

Do you have two sides to your lifestyle depending on which friends you're with? Perhaps you drink and party a little too much with your office friends at Happy Hour. And then drive home. Do you have friends that you would not want them to know you drink? Do you curse in front of some friends and not others? Do you have secrets? Are you a little too flirty with a man that you shouldn't be. It's hidden. No one will know. Our key scripture above is, "But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known." Satan always pushes us further than we wanted to go. Remember that. The enemy plots your demise. Just ask God to forgive you and turn away from things He is convicting you of. Sin never ends well unless you renounce it and stay close to God.

We Try to Hide From God

If you feel distant from God, you moved away from Him. God is still there. See, when we do have sin in our lives and it's pleasurable, it can be hard to resist. I've been there and it's hard. We numb ourselves through movies, books, alcohol, porn, weed, exercise, or food. Crazy thing is, God's just observing. We think if we can distract ourselves, we won't think about our distance from God. But guess what? God knows every single thing about you. He loves you intently and is waiting to forgive you, to bless you, lead you, and love you. Committing your life to God will forever be your sweetest surrender.

"For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has

anything been secret, but that it would come to light.”

~ Mark 4:22
