How To Keep Mean People From Hijacking Your Day
When people are mean to us, it catches us off guard. We don't deserve it and it is confusing how to handle it. In this session we apply a strategy using the acronym of DEAL. DECIDE how much you are willing to put up with. EXPECT mean people. Who knows why folks act the way they do? You cannot control that, however, you can have a pre-made plan for when they show up in your world. ASK questions or ask for what you need to stop. And Lastly, play a little game with yourself called, "Later tonight." Think to yourself, "Later tonite... I will be in my jammies with a cappuccino, watching Dancing with the Stars, and you so won't matter to me!" Focus on something pleasurable you will do later that will make the temporary situation not worth stressing over.
